2026 Counsellor/DHOM Postings

Application Process
The application process is open for three weeks, closing on Sunday, 9 August 2026 at 9pm (NZT). We are unable to accept late applications.
Band 19 postings are subject to short-listing and panel interviews by the Foreign Policy Leadership Panel.
As part of your application, the following applies:
- The application process is completed entirely through success factors, and you are required to prepare a CV and one cover letter. Please state in your cover letter the reasons why you are interested in each role.
- There is no minimum or maximum number of roles you need to apply for.
- There is no specific template required for your CV, but your CV and cover letter must be uploaded to Success Factors in Word Format (not PDF).
- Please note: By applying into this process, you acknowledge that performance and capability data from the past three years (where available and relevant) may be shared with panel members. This information will be used to support the selection process alongside the information you provide in your application. It will be used solely for this purpose and will be deleted once the process is complete. In addition, you acknowledge that we may seek feedback from your line managers from the last three years. The names and relevant personal details of shortlisted candidates will also be shared with SORD to enable standard background and security checks to be completed as part of the selection process.

Details provided by Post on roles in this year’s round can be found in the Postings Role Schedule. There may be changes made to this schedule throughout the advertising period as roles may be added or removed. Any changes will be clearly noted.
Candidate Due Diligence
Before applying for a Post, carefully consider factors such as dual citizenship/nationality requirements, your personal circumstances (including family, partner employment opportunities, healthcare, childcare and any applicable Dependent Employment Agreement (DEA) etc.), and whether your partnership is recognised by the receiving state.
