About the role - Kōrero mō te tūranga
- The Finance Coordinator is responsible for the Embassy’s accounts, budgets and financial analysis to ensure the smooth and efficient financial management and operations of the Embassy.
- The Finance Coordinator will undertake day-to-day accounting functions including financial reporting, budgeting, payments, invoicing, funding, payroll and cost recoveries within the Embassy’s financial requirements and audit controls.
- They will also provide online guidance and support to Finance Coordinators at the New Zealand Consulate Offices in the US (Los Angeles, Honolulu and New York), and will provide administrative support at the Embassy, including administering the staff leave system, administering the inventory of representational supplies, advising staff of Embassy financial processes including the management of their expenses, drive process improvements and provide back-up to Team Administrators at the Embassy.
- We are looking for someone with a minimum of three years’ experience in a finance and/or business administration role with a focus on financial management and reporting and a strong delivery focus.

The salary is from US$50,494 with a midpoint of US$59,405 total fixed remuneration, negotiable depending on skills and experience. The Embassy provides a comprehensive health insurance package and 20 days of paid vacation per year.
Candidates are responsible for managing their own tax obligations in both New Zealand and the United States, as applicable. This includes understanding any responsibilities under the New Zealand Revenue Department’s ‘On Government Service’ rule, as well as complying with relevant US Federal and State laws.

We’d like to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:
- Preferably at least three years’ experience in a finance and/or business administration role or other relevant experience
- Proven ability to manage budgets and communicate/explain financial documents to management and other teams and a willingness to share their financial knowledge with and coach others.
- Strong achievement and delivery focus, meeting high standards including accuracy, having attention to detail, well-developed planning and organisational skills, ability to meet deadlines, as well as a commitment to continuous process improvement.
- Strong customer focus and experience with managing external service providers and suppliers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and within guidelines and the Embassy’s financial and audit requirements, as well as a commitment to contribute to the Embassy team and cover Team Administrators’ absences.
- Personal integrity, discretion and an honest and ethical approach; strict observance of the Code of Conduct
- Understanding of The Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti, Te Reo Māori and Māori customs and protocols would be beneficial.
The successful candidate must have the right to live and work in the United States. The New Zealand Embassy is able to support an application for an A2 visa, which is subject to a five-year limit. This is a locally employed position, with terms and conditions being set in accordance with US employment regulations. No offshore allowance or transfer allowance applies.
